WASTE MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS
~Facts~

The issues of urban waste management in the developed and developing worlds are very diverse from each other. It is shown that developed countries create larger amounts of wastes, than third world countries. First world countries have developed  incinerators-in hope to burn our rubbish to manage their wastes. Although it may seem this is a good way to get rid of our trash, it is still very much there; in the air causing pollution. Incinerators can cause lung disease, heart disease and premature deaths. Third world countries are still progressing to better management but at the present they lack the assortments and machines to properly dispose of wastes. The most common way for people to dispose  of wastes is done by dumping it on land or into water or we put it into a incinerator. All methods stated above have negative environmental impacts with health risks to US if OUR WASTES are not correctly dealt with.

Safe Alternatves To Landfills: Onsite utilization will reduce need for transport. Minimize our waste- a goal we all hope to achieve. Centers with technologies that use collected waste products are urgently required. Hazardous wastes that have been disposed should be analyzed and wastes that cannot be disposed properly should be needed to be restricted at the start of entry.

BENIFITS OF REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Reduce , Reuse, Recycle. More commonly known as the 3 R's. The 3 R's are vital components of the environment. These methods are the most safe and effective alternatives  to protect, economise and to uplift nature. To build and environment healthy for us and all living things, to benefit us and our future generations. The many benefits of the 3 R's are that

  • It saves energy

  • It prevents pollution

  • Saves millions of money for the government and us

  • Helps sustain the environment for future generations

  • Reduces Green House Gas that contributes to global climate change

Next time think about what your'e going to throw away, think about the world and how you can help the world, by doing a little small act, that takes up less than a few minutes of your day- Make a difference.

ENVIROMENTAL IMPACTS
~Facts~

Waste Management Problems are a major issue for our school and our surrounding wildlife. However this environmental impact can be reduced, with your help. issue results in various problems. For instance

some waste will rot, but in the process it will release a smell of methane gas, which volatile and assists to the Greenhouse effects. Toxic gas caused from Incineration can cause pollution in the air and pitch in to help create more acid rain, the ash from the incinerators consist of metals and toxins. When Landfill Leachate decays, it may cause pollution, this is due to the fact that when plastics are burnt in the incinerator, they are likely to provide toxic chemicals, for instance dioxins (the most toxic chemical known to science). Exposure to dioxins result in in skin lesions and breakage for the immune system,  nervous system, the endocrine system and reproductive functions.

ABOUT US

How can you take action? At school there will be a competition between the 4 house teams of PSI. There will be 4 recycling bins located in the lobby, one representing each house. Each bin will be split into thirds- Plastic, Metal,  and Glass. Whoever has the most recycled objects, will win lots of house points. If you wish to help even more with recycling outside of school and create a better environment for future generations, there is a recycling centre located in Kiev, where you can put plastic, paper, glass etc, to be recycled.

At the bottom of this page- will be a tracker for the house team points for every week, check now to see who has the most!
